Performing Arts for Adults
DANCEAdult tap is your chance to get moving while exploring rhythmic fundamentals and having fun! This class will be designed just for YOU, whether you are picking up your tap shoes again to brush up on steps or you are trying tap for the first time.
Introduces ballet principles while building strength, flexibility, and coordination. This class is designed specifically for the experience levels of adults, whether this is the first time you have taken a ballet class, or you are looking to get back into moving. Ballet shoes are required. .
For 18+ year olds, this class will alternate between ballet, jazz, and modern dance styles each week. All levels are welcome! View the
Intermediate Adult Tap
This class will introduce more complex technique and rhythmic principal. You will focus on learning choreography and exploring improvisation. Flyer (PDF)
Let's Bring Back Dance
Hosted by Mickey Lower and her dance council, adults 18 and older will enjoy learning various social dancing steps. This series offers casual dancing for fun and exercise. Classes meet September thru April on Tuesdays, 7-9 pm. A different step will be learned each month. Pay $3 each time you attend. No partner needed.
At our program, Let's Bring Back Dance sponsored by Normal Parks and Recreation, we don't just stop the fun on Tuesday night for lessons and dancing. We take the dancing fun to another level with nightclub style lighting, candlelit tables for socializing and our amazing D.J. spinning the tunes perfect for dancing Swing, Salsa, Cha Cha, Nightclub Two Step and more. One Saturday night a month at the Community Activity Center 1110 Douglas St. in Normal. Dance is 7-10pm and just $5. No partner needed.
Tango Quick StartIt is easy to get started dancing the tango with Tango Quick Start. This class will teach you the basics of one of the world's most engaging partner dances. In eight weeks, you will learn the essentials of Tango! Gain confidence, poise, and elegance while having fun learning a new skill. Enjoy a creative outlet with like-minded peers and you will be dancing right away. No partner required to attend. Flyer (PDF)
This adult course includes how to enhance partner connection, improve floor craft and navigation especially on crowded dance floors and how to feel and experience the music more artfully in your dancing. Each session uses a new movement vocabulary (set of steps) as a framework for developing the aforementioned skills. Dancers will acquire ability to dance tango fluently on any dance floor and with any partner. Please wear dance shoes to allow for easy pivoting and no partner is necessary. Previous experience with Argentine Tango is required.
