Facilities Management

The Facilities and Energy Management Department's mission is to provide a safe, functional, clean and welcoming environment through the completion of all custodial and routine interior and exterior property maintenance for the Town of Normal.

This department is responsible for all aspects of building operations and maintenance of the 18 municipality's facilities, including the Children's Discovery Museum, Uptown Station and the historic Normal Theater. This includes coordination and supervision of building repairs, performing routine property renovation and managing energy consumption. Custodial services to all Town facilities are performed by this Department.

Facilities Management strongly emphasizes the growth of their staff and has hosted multiple professional development seminars and training opportunities. In January 2013, the department implemented a formal staff training program with continuing education opportunities. All Facilities Management staff members completed the Cleaning Management Institute “Custodial Technician Basic Program” training.

The Cleaning Management Institute is a professional society dedicated to education, training and career improvement for the facility maintenance industry. The Custodial Technician Basic Certification is widely recognized as the premier professional certification in the industry. This 21 clock hour training program has been officially recognized by the Illinois Community College Board and approved for 1 credit hour of Continuing Education “1.6” classification vocational credit.

Future department plans include being more Eco-friendly and sustainable by converting to 100% “green” cleaning products and practices, the development of a Preventative Maintenance program and Town Strategic Facility Plan, all while continuing to further the Town of Normal’s mission statement of being committed to service excellence.
