Community Gardens

Interested in gardening but don't have the space? The Town of Normal has two organic community gardens available each summer! Both community gardens have 35 organic garden plots in a variety of sizes: 10' x 10' plots for $15, 10' x 20' plots for $25 and 20' x 20' plots for $35. Additionally, one fully accessible raised plot is available for a gardener with physical disabilities. Garden plots are assigned on a first come first served basis; limit 1 per family. The community gardens have water on-site and nearby parking.

The One Normal Plaza Community Garden [PDF] is located on Oglesby Avenue directly east of the Community Activity Center (1110 Douglas Street). Parking is available in the public parking lot south of the garden. The Ironwood Park Community Garden [PDF] is located at Ironwood Park on North Linden Street (north of Raab Rd. and continue under the 55 overpass). The garden is just east of the playground and southeast of the shelter.

Staff will attempt to till plots in the spring prior to the start of the gardening season. However, weather may delay or prevent tilling. Participants may begin gardening in their assigned plots on April 1, weather permitting. Garden participants are responsible for any additional soil preparations. All soil amendments and plant applications must meet organic standards. Synthetic fertilizers, pesticides, herbicides, and fungicides are strictly prohibited. All plots must be cleared out by October 31.

Registration for all community garden plots will be held in May 2017. Proof of residency will be required (i.e. Drivers License, State ID, tax bill, etc.). Non-residents may begin to register the following day. Registration will take place at the Normal Parks and Recreation office, 100 E. Phoenix Ave. Online registration is not available.

Refer to the Community Gardening Information Sheet for more details. NOTE: Plots are limited to one per family.
