Bulky Waste

Bulky waste refers to large items that cannot fit into your garbage cart. Bulky waste is collected each week on your regular garbage collection day.

Instructions for Collection

  • The total weight of items placed at the curb should be no more than 500 lbs. A private waste collection contractor should be contacted for larger amounts.
  • Items should be placed loose at the curb and not in a box or non-Town garbage cart/can.
  • Items should be placed 3 or more feet from carts, landscape waste, brush, leaves, mailboxes, utility poles, overhead wires and other obstructions.
  • Cardboard, when included with bulky waste, should be flattened first.
  • Place bulky waste curbside after 6:00 pm the day prior to collection or before 6:00 am on your regular collection day.
  • On sloped right of ways, place bulky waste lengthwise or parallel to the street. This helps the operator pick up the items with little or no damage to the right of way.

Items that should not be included in bulky waste

  • Bags of garbage - bags of garbage should be placed in a Town-issued garbage cart.
  • Shingles - contact a private firm or a landfill for proper disposal (small amounts may be included with bulky waste).
  • Landscape rock - small amounts may be included with garbage or curbside on a piece of disposable plastic or a piece of plywood (the plywood will be taken with the rocks).
  • Electronics - state law requires certain electronics be recycled (i.e televisions, stereos, computer equipment). See the Electronics Recycling page for a complete list.
  • Material from work done by contractors.
  • Landscape Waste such as leaves and plant clippings.
  • Brush (sticks, branches, bush clippings)
