The Normal Police Department Domestic Violence (DV) Unit is assigned to follow-up on domestic-related cases. The DV Unit offers services including criminal investigation, safety planning, domestic violence education and finding shelter and counseling for victims. The DV Unit also collects used cellular phone for distribution to victims of domestic violence so they are able to call 9-1-1 in an emergency.
One specially trained detective and a civilian advocate are assigned to conduct follow-up investigations and provide assistance to victims of domestic related cases. This team provides information on the Illinois Domestic Violence Act, residence options and Orders of Protection.
Order of Protection
Victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking can seek an Order of Protection. The Normal Police Department recommends the following options:
