Pavement Markings & Signs

The Town of Normal has 426 lane miles of streets. Each year approximately 3,150 gallons of paint and 18,500 pounds of glass beads are utilized to mark pavement in order to provide directions and safe passage for motorists, bicyclists and pedestrians.

There are more than 12,000 road signs in Normal. They are installed in new developments and replaced throughout the community due to damage and age. Recent federal standards require that signs meet certain reflectivity standards, sign face size standards and letter size standards. The Town is in a multi-year process of replacing signs to meet those requirements.
