“To the Max” 2K Obstacle Challenge

The "To the Max" Obstacle Challenge is a youth and family 2K course (approximately 1.25 miles), highlighted by approximately 15 obstacles! This event is for ages 5+ and is hosted in the fall. We provide a large spectator area (approximately 80% of course visible from this area) for this chip-timed event. During the inaugural race in 2018, we had 154 registered participants. 2019 had 248 registered! Even in a COVID environment, 166 signed up in 2020.

All race participants will receive a t-shirt and participation medal. All racers will be timed. Trophies will be awarded to the top 3 competitors in each of the competitive age groups. Race fees are staggered based on registration date.

Volunteers! We utilize over 50 staff and volunteers that assist with course set-up, check-in, obstacles, course directions, and emcee!

Health and Safety Precautions (2020)

Your cooperation and adherence to the "To the Max" health and safety guidelines is appreciated. Race administrators have made the following adjustments to the 2020 race...

Safety Protocols

  • Stay Home if you are Feeling Sick or Experiencing Symptoms!
  • Maintain 6' Social Distance
  • Face Coverings Recommended and Encouraged

Registration

  • Online registration is required and closes on Wednesday, 9/9 at 12pm OR upon reaching max capacity. No on-site registration will be available for any reason.
  • Participant maximums in each race wave have been reduced, plus an overall cap on the total number of registrants.
  • Runners are strongly encouraged to pick up their race bags PRIOR TO the race day. Pick up will occur at the Normal Parks and Recreation Office - 100 E. Phoenix Avenue. Pick up times will be Thursday, 9/10 from 3-6pm and Friday, 9/11 from 11am-2pm.

Race Day Experience

  • Please show up NO EARLIER than 15 minutes prior to your scheduled race time!
  • Participants should not congregate together at any time. Social distanced starting line will be implemented with markers for racer positioning.
  • Contact-less water and hand sanitizer stations will be located throughout the course route.
  • No on-site trophy presentation (winners will be contacted post-race) for competitive heats will be offered.
  • Post-race hospitality will be limited to bottled water and granola bars.

  • Race results will be available online only and not posted on-site.
