Through a multi-year process of strategic planning, Normal Fire Department determined that the current facilities and the location of these facilities do not adequately meet the requirements for emergency response services for the Town of Normal. With this process, it became evident that a new centralized headquarters facility was needed to accommodate the needs of our community.
In addition to this, it was determined that our oldest station (Station 2) was no longer in adequate condition or large enough to serve its surrounding area. After determining the areas most served and traffic patterns, it was decided that this station needed to be closer in proximity to Illinois State University, which accounts for a large increase in call volume during the school year.
The plan and study resulted in a new Headquarters Fire Station to be located near ISU and Uptown Normal at 606 S. Main Street. This station will also be the location of the training facility for the entire department.
